Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grand Cru 2014
There is simply no other wine in the world which embodies the notion of fine wine more clearly. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, or D.R.C. is the best claimant to the title of best wine in the world. This vinous deity is rare, expensive and for those lucky few who have tasted it, entirely justified in its reputation. 2014 is a superb creature, a vintage that celebrates the essence of Burgundy rather than the modern fruit bombs that garner the highest scores. Nevertheless, this fresh, soft, ethereal vintage has well-earned its 97 point score from Wine Advocate who smartly observes what this wine is all about: “precision, precision, precision”. It will go the distance in the cellar and even though they made far more in 2014 than normal, it still amounts to a mere 657 cases. Minuscule production by any standards and as Burgundy authority Allen Meadows says, this vintage is “reaffirming its reputation as the most distinctive wine in Burgundy”.
